As you all know, there are a lot of scams out in the deep ocean of online business. People who are eager to start their online home business will easily fall into the trap. I myself had fallen into the traps twice!! I finally gain some wisdom to distinguish a legitimate business from a scam.
I found out the number issue in online business is the trust issue. We meet our prospects through internet from all over the corners in the world with little chance to do face to face meeting. It’s not a surprise that trust comes in between you and your prospects. Distrust is very expensive! The moment there is a suspicion about a person’s motives, everything he/she does becomes tainted.
Stephen M. R. Covey mentions in his book "The Speed Of Trust"that trust is not some soft, illusive quality that either you have or you don’t; rather trust is a pragmatic, tangible, actionable asset that you can create.
4 Cores Of Credibility
Personal credibility is the foundation of all trust. There are 4 cores of credibility:
1. Integrity—Are you congruent, inside and out? walking your talk; having the courage to act in accordance with your values and beliefs. Interestingly, most massive violations of trust are violations of integrity.
2. Intent—What’s your agenda? Trust grows when our motives are straightforward and based on mutual benefit. When we genuinely care not only for ourselves, but also for the people we interact with, lead or serve, the trust is built. When we suspect a hidden agenda from someone or we don’t believe they are acting in our best interest, we are suspicious about everything they say and do.
3. Capabilities—Are you relevant? The abilities, talents, attitudes, skills, knowledge and style to deliver results.
4. Results—What’s your track of record in getting the right thing done?
Build A Battle-Ready Organization
Leadership may have come in a different package. It’s got to be credible…Overall, it’s about credibility, walking the talk. You can’t prevent a major catastrophe, but you can build an organization that is battle-ready, that has high morale, that knows how to behave, that trusts itself, and where people trust one another. In military training, the first rule is to instill soldiers with trust in their officers, because without trust they won’t fight.
Characters and Competence
There are no moral shortcuts in the game of business or life. There are, basically, three kinds of people: The unsuccessful, the temporarily successful, and those who become and remain successful. The difference is character. Both integrity and Intent are issue of character while capabilities and results are matters of competence.
It’s time to evaluate ourselves. Who would I want to be? Successful in long haul or a one-hit sale type? Whom would you like to partner with?
